The BC Energy Step Code has been adopted by many Municipalities in the Lower Mainland and across BC. The BC Step Code is an optional energy efficiency regulation produced by the BC Provincial Government. Adoption of the Code by Municipalities is decided by the individual Municipality. The BC Step Code website (BC Energy Step Code) provides information on the Code and lists Municipalities that have adopted it.

The BC Step Code changes the way buildings are designed and constructed. Exterior wall, roof, window and door assemblies require upgrades. The required upgrades are project specific but generally include higher effective thermal resistance and controlled air leakage.
